The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed profound grief over a fatal road crash that claimed seven lives along the Keffi–Abuja Highway on Thursday.
The tragic incident occurred at Angwan Jarmi, where a lone vehicle reportedly lost control while travelling at high speed, veered into the opposite lane, and crashed, killing all seven occupants.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Corps Marshal described the loss as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stressing that every death on the nation’s highways represents a preventable tragedy.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the victims’ souls.
According to preliminary findings, excessive speed is suspected to have played a major role in the crash. FRSC
rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene after distress calls were received, but the situation quickly deteriorated due to rising tension among bystanders.
The Corps reported that some aggrieved members of the public, including commercial motorcycle operators, allegedly attacked the FRSC Keffi Unit Command, escalating the crisis and disrupting rescue operations.
While acknowledging the emotional distress that often follows fatal crashes, the Corps Marshal has ordered a comprehensive and transparent probe into all circumstances surrounding the incident, including allegations of possible patrol-related issues.
He assured the public that the Corps would neither rush to assign blame nor ignore concerns raised by witnesses, noting that any officer found to have violated operational guidelines would face disciplinary action in accordance with regulations.
The FRSC also commended the swift intervention of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army, whose prompt deployment restored calm and prevented further breakdown of law and order.
The Corps urged citizens to remain peaceful and allow due process, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and the protection of lives on Nigerian roads.
