The Chairman-Elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in a move aimed at deepening grassroots development and fostering stronger collaboration with the media.
The gesture was announced on Thursday during a congratulatory courtesy visit by the NUJ FCT Council leadership following Maikalangu’s victory in the recent municipal elections.
Chairman of the Council, Comrade Grace Ike, who was represented by Vice Chairman Yahaya Ndambabo, conveyed appreciation for both the warm reception and the borehole donation, describing it as a clear demonstration of the chairman-elect’s commitment to community-focused governance and partnership with the press.
Ndambabo noted that Maikalangu’s re-election reflected the strong confidence residents have in his leadership, citing infrastructural improvements across several communities, including Sabon Lugbe, during his first tenure.
He reaffirmed the NUJ FCT Council’s commitment to responsible journalism, including election coverage and democratic accountability across AMAC and other area councils within the Federal Capital Territory.
“This victory underscores the trust the people have in your leadership, further strengthened by this thoughtful support to the NUJ,” Ndambabo said, urging the chairman-elect to build on his developmental strides in the coming term.
In his remarks, Maikalangu thanked the union for its support and emphasized that his electoral success was rooted in sustained engagement with grassroots communities, infrastructure delivery, and empowerment programmes.
“Politics is about the people at the grassroots, not just those in urban centres,” he stated, adding that his administration’s first-term projects helped rebuild public trust.
He also praised the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that coordinated mobilization played a crucial role in achieving a strong voter turnout.
According to him, the borehole donation symbolizes his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and continuous engagement with key stakeholders, particularly the media, which he described as essential to democratic governance.
