The Director-General of the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC), Prof. Saleh Yuguda, will join experts from several nations at the 3rd International Congress on Sickle Cell and Other Inherited Blood Disorders, scheduled to hold virtually on November 14–15, 2025.
This year’s congress, themed “Global Guidelines for Blood Management,” will bring together medical professionals, researchers, and policymakers from Nigeria, India, Malaysia, and Canada, offering a unique perspective from low, middle, and high-income countries.
According to the organizers, the two-day virtual event will explore the standards and approaches for ensuring safe blood and blood product supply, focusing on donor recruitment, donor eligibility, donor testing, and product manufacturing. The comparative study among participating countries aims to highlight key differences in systems and practices, drawing valuable lessons to strengthen global transfusion safety and sustainability.
Prof. Yuguda, who has been leading national reforms in Nigeria’s blood service architecture, is expected to share insights on the country’s strides toward achieving a coordinated, safe, and sufficient national blood supply system. His presentation will focus on Nigeria’s evolving strategies for donor mobilization, quality assurance, and the adoption of international best practices.
The congress is expected to serve as a global platform for advancing dialogue and collaboration in transfusion medicine and inherited blood disorders-paving the way for improved patient outcomes across the world.
