Veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, Moji Danisa, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Trailblazer in Tabloid Journalism Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in recognition of her groundbreaking contributions to Nigerian media over the past four decades.
Danisa, hailed as “Nigeria’s Queen of Tabloid Journalism,” is celebrated for redefining the tabloid landscape through fearless reporting, compelling narratives, and pioneering editorial leadership. Her work has elevated tabloid journalism from sensationalism to a respected medium for investigative reporting and social commentary.
“Moji’s leadership and innovation in storytelling resonate widely with the public,” said Jide Oyekunle, Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council. “She’s helped reshape public perception of tabloid journalism with a bold mix of entertainment and substance.”
Starting as a young reporter, Danisa rose through the ranks to become a sub-editor and eventually founded her own media outfits. Her notable editorial roles include Editor of Climax Magazine, Editor-in-Chief of Whispers Magazine, and Founder of City News—Nigeria’s first tabloid inspired by the UK’s News of the World. She has also written for top national dailies including The Guardian, Sun Newspapers, Weekend Concord, Hallmark, and PM News.
Her impact extends beyond print to broadcast and film. A founding staff member of BTV (now EBS) and AIT, Danisa produced several award-winning shows and served as News Manager. She currently leads Paparazzi Press as CEO and is a Director at WOW Communications. Her early Nollywood ventures include acting roles in two films, notably Zeb Ejiro’s box office hit Domittila.
In addition to her professional achievements, Danisa is a passionate mentor, especially to young female journalists. “We need more women like Moji to continue speaking truth to power,” said NUJ FCT Chairperson, Grace Ike. “Her courage inspires us all to tell stories that matter.”
The award not only celebrates Danisa’s legacy but also highlights her enduring influence on journalism rooted in courage, clarity, and compassion.
