The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another major operational success with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State, reinforcing its growing reputation for intelligence-driven enforcement and technological efficiency.
The breakthrough, which occurred on March 23, 2026, was made possible through the Corps’ National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform during routine manual uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti.
According to details of the operation, suspicion was raised when a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area submitted vehicle data that failed to align with standard manufacturer specifications. The chassis number provided did not correspond with that of a Toyota Camry 2006 model, prompting further scrutiny.
Demonstrating professional expertise, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the irregularity and re-ran the chassis number through the NVIS database. The system immediately flagged a valid match linked to a vehicle reported stolen two years earlier.
Subsequent contact with the original owner confirmed the theft, setting off a coordinated effort to recover the vehicle and apprehend those involved.
Following a briefing of the State Licensing Officer and the Sector Commander, strategic steps were taken to invite the suspect for verification. However, when the individual failed to comply, the matter was escalated to the Nigeria Police for further action.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin successfully recovered the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti.
The successful recovery highlights the increasing effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration between the FRSC and the Nigeria Police, as well as the critical role of the NVIS database in protecting vehicle ownership and combating automobile-related crimes nationwide.
The Corps has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on all forms of vehicle fraud, urging members of the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details to avoid legal complications.
