Five former Inspectors-General of Police Aliyu Attah, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Suleiman Abba, and Usman Alkali Baba on Tuesday visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja to pledge their support for the current Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The former police chiefs used the visit to offer strategic advice and mentorship, encouraging the IGP to sustain ongoing reforms, lead with intelligence-driven policing, prioritize the welfare of officers, and uphold the trust Nigerians have placed in the Force. They emphasized that effective leadership, professionalism, and continuity of reforms are critical to strengthening internal security and public confidence.
Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, described the visit as “purposeful” and highly significant, noting that the former IGPs possess deep institutional knowledge and firsthand understanding of the demands of the office. According to him, their show of solidarity reflects unity within the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force and reinforces support for the current administration.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police on March 4, 2026, and the visit by his predecessors is widely seen as a strong endorsement of his leadership and a boost to ongoing efforts aimed at people-centered, intelligence-led policing.
