The leadership of the Ebira Youth Congress (EYC) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College (BARECKS) in Osara, Kogi State.
In a statement, the group described the project as a landmark initiative capable of driving Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda, accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, and addressing the persistent challenge of local energy scarcity.
The EYC also applauded the Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, for what it termed his pragmatic and visionary leadership. The group described him as a worthy son of Ebiraland who has leveraged his position to attract impactful projects to the region, thereby supporting the Tinubu administration’s clean energy transition efforts.
According to the group, the Barefoot Renewable Energy College is strategically designed to bridge the gap in technical manpower by offering hands-on vocational training in solar, wind, and other clean energy technologies. It noted that the institution would not only convert natural energy resources into usable power but also create employment opportunities for the host community.
The EYC further emphasized that the college would equip young people with practical skills in the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar panels, lanterns, and mini-grid systems through a learning-by-doing approach.
The organisation commended the leadership of the Energy Commission for aligning its actions with the core objectives of the Barefoot Renewable Energy Blueprint, which focuses on empowering individuals in both rural and urban communities to achieve technical self-sufficiency.
While highlighting the broader vision of building a highly skilled workforce to drive national development and reduce unemployment, the EYC also praised Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support and commitment to the realisation of the project. The group noted that his collaboration with the commission has laid a solid foundation for Nigeria, and indeed Africa, to emerge as a key player in the global clean energy transition.
