The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Mustapha Abdullahi, over the weekend participated in key renewable energy engagements across northern Nigeria, including the launch of a 2MW solar mini-grid and installation of 200 solar-powered streetlights at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology.
The projects were inaugurated alongside the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to sustainable energy solutions in the country.
In continuation of the activities, Abdullahi attended the National Launch and North-West Deployment of the Energise Commercialisation Now (ECoN) programme held in Kano. The programme is designed to accelerate the commercialization of indigenous energy technologies and promote local innovation.
During the event, the ECN delegation toured exhibition stands where policy documents and locally fabricated technologies were showcased, highlighting Nigeria’s growing capacity in renewable energy development.
At the North-West Centre in Sokoto, the Commission presented a range of solar photovoltaic (PV) innovations. These included a compact mobile solar generator, assembled PV modules, a solar-powered humidifier, and a ploughing machine. The exhibition also featured solar thermal solutions such as a hybrid dryer, distillation unit, water heater, solar cooker, and a prototype wind energy system.
