The Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) is set for a new chapter as Mr. Alakirawa Ularam assumes duty as the agency’s new Overseeing Director, bringing fresh energy, technical expertise and valuable experience to the administration of land and geographic information services in the Federal Capital Territory.

Ularam took over the leadership of AGIS on May 29, 2026, following the retirement of the former Director, Mr. Umar Sayyadi, who bowed out of service after 35 years in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The appointment of Ularam is coming with renewed expectations that his wealth of experience, particularly in information technology and land administration, will further strengthen the agency’s operations and improve service delivery to residents, property owners and investors.

Before his new assignment, Ularam served as Deputy Director and Head of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit in the Department of Land Administration. His background places him in a strong position to drive technology-based solutions and support the continued modernisation of land administration in the FCT.

With Abuja witnessing rapid growth and increasing demand for efficient land services, his leadership at AGIS is expected to focus attention on improving processes, enhancing digital services and making interactions with the agency more convenient and responsive.

Ularam is also expected to build on the achievements of his predecessor while bringing his own ideas and professional experience to the agency.

His assumption of office therefore signals not just a change of leadership, but an opportunity for AGIS to consolidate its digital transformation and deliver more efficient, transparent and people-oriented services.

As stakeholders look forward to the next phase of the agency’s development, Ularam’s experience and ICT-driven background have positioned him as a capable hand to steer AGIS through it’s new chapter.
