The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has called on Nigerians to seize the concurrent observance of Ramadan and Lent as a defining moment for national healing, unity, and moral renewal.
In a goodwill message marking the commencement of the sacred fasting seasons for Muslims and Christians, Ike extended warm felicitations to faithful across the Federal Capital Territory and the country at large, describing the period as a powerful spiritual convergence capable of inspiring collective transformation.
She noted that both Ramadan and Lent symbolize deep reflection, self-discipline, sacrifice, compassion, and love for humanity and values, even as Nigeria urgently needs to overcome its current socio-economic and security challenges.
According to the NUJ FCT Chairman, the solemn seasons provide a rare opportunity for citizens to draw closer to God, strengthen their moral foundations, and recommit to peaceful coexistence and nation-building.
“At a time when our nation yearns for unity, stability, and progress, this sacred period should be used to offer fervent prayers for Nigeria, her leaders, and the peace and security of the Federal Capital Territory,” she stated.
Ike also emphasized the critical role of the media in fostering national cohesion, assuring that journalists in the FCT remain dedicated to truth, fairness, and responsible reporting that promotes harmony among Nigeria’s diverse populations.
She urged media professionals and citizens alike to become ambassadors of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect during and beyond the holy seasons.
“Let this period inspire all of us to uphold the highest values of humanity and work collectively toward a more just, peaceful, and prosperous nation,” she concluded.
On behalf of the NUJ FCT Council, the Chairman wished Muslim and Christian faithful a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and Lenten season, expressing hope that the sacrifices and prayers offered would usher in renewed hope and lasting prosperity for Nigeria.
