The Nigerian Navy has expressed a renewed commitment towards ridding the country of crude oil theft. This was the assertion of the Chief of Training and Operations, Navy, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, at an event in Kaduna on Saturday. It was a dinner night in respect of the former Chief of Training and Operations, Rear Admiral Zakariya Muhammad, and other officers.
During the dinner, 15 individuals among them a Rear Admirals, Commodores, Captains and junior officers were also awarded gifts. Ferreira explained that the training and operations department is the fulcrum of the navy in regard to sea operations and training of its personnel, adding he was very grateful for the contributions of the outgoing officers towards the meeting of the branch’s objectives, noting that his administration would build upon what they had achieved.
He said, “Our efforts directly impact economic prosperity in Nigeria by fighting crude oil theft and recovering national revenue.” He therefore reassured Nigerians that the navy would deal continuously with these vices.
The event also provided an avenue to appreciate officers who had served in the branch and were moving over to serve in other positions. Ferreira emphasized the appreciation they had given in keeping up the standards of the branch.
Rear Admiral Patrick Effah, who spoke for the retiring officers, expressed appreciation to God Almighty and thanked Him for the great honor done unto them. He said the branch had a high stake in fighting crude oil theft, oil bunkering, and other maritime crimes. Effah wished the branch continued success as he identified the enormous workload remaining for staff at the branch.
