The National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajiya Aishatu Ibrahim, on Thursday reaffirmed the association’s commitment to amplifying women’s voices and ensuring accountability in the implementation of the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (RWVL) project.
The initiative, launched in Abuja by @actionaidnigeria with support from Global Affairs Canada (GAC), is a five-year programme worth 15 million Canadian dollars aimed at strengthening women’s rights organizations, promoting inclusivity, and advancing the rights and safety of women and girls across Nigeria.
The project, themed “Consolidating Gains and Strategic Partnerships for Sustained Impact,” is a transition from the earlier Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) project and will support over 108 women’s rights organizations nationwide.
In her remarks, the Canadian High Commissioner’s representative reiterated Canada’s commitment to promoting women’s rights, peace, security, and human rights across Africa while commending the media for amplifying women’s voices. ActionAid Nigeria’s Deputy Country Director, Hajiya Suwaiba Dankabo, also emphasized that the RWVL project will address the persistent underrepresentation of women in leadership roles.
NAWOJ, as a key partner, pledged to continue mobilizing journalists to spotlight women’s struggles, achievements, and demands for equity, ensuring that Nigerian women remain at the heart of the nation’s development agenda.
