Nigeria’s security and regulatory agencies have intensified efforts in tackling insecurity, drug trafficking, corruption, and unsafe imports, recording significant results in August 2025, according to the National Orientation Agency (NOA) during its second Monthly Joint Security Press Briefing (JSPB) in Abuja.

The Director-General of NOA, speaking at the headquarters, said the briefing was designed to update Nigerians on government actions in addressing socio-economic and security challenges while strengthening public trust through consistent communication.

Key Achievements:

Military Operations: The Nigerian Army conducted 261 operations nationwide, repelling terrorist attacks, neutralizing 30 insurgents in Zamfara, and rescuing passengers in Borno. Seventy-six terrorists, including women and children, also surrendered.

Police Enforcement: The Police executed 210 operations, made 1,950 arrests, dismantled 37 gangs, rescued 141 kidnap victims, and recovered 111 firearms. Two new Area Commands and five upgraded stations in Benue enhanced community security.

Drug Control: The NDLEA seized a staggering 66,255.81 kg of narcotics, arrested 944 suspects, secured 17 convictions, and rehabilitated 854 drug users. The agency also deployed 48 new vehicles nationwide.

Anti-Corruption Drive: The EFCC secured 588 convictions and recovered ₦21.06 billion plus foreign currencies. The ICPC recovered ₦5.5bn, returned $368,390.95 to the CBN, and strengthened anti-corruption vanguards in MDAs and schools.

Food & Drug Safety: NAFDAC seized 17 containers of falsified and unsafe products, including expired tomato paste, while arresting offenders to protect households.

Border Security: The Immigration Service intercepted 50 trafficking victims, approved 10,803 visas, deported/repatriated over 470 persons, and denied entry to foreign nationals with invalid documents.

The NOA emphasized that citizen collaboration remains vital, urging communities to report suspicious activities, arms movement, drug trafficking, and smuggling recruiters. “When intelligence meets joint action, kidnap syndicates and gun-running pipelines fail,” the NOA boss stated, assuring that ongoing operations are degrading terror logistics while protecting communities.

The Agency reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s directives on transparency, citizen engagement, and inter-agency collaboration, stressing that every seized container, rescued victim, and conviction represents a step toward a safer Nigeria.

The NOA has also activated its state, zonal, and local government offices to intensify grassroots outreach through town halls, rallies, traditional institutions, and media engagements, ensuring that citizens are well-informed and misinformation is countered.
