RMRDC DG, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, Wins Acclaim as Champion of Nigeria’s Industrial Renaissance
The Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Prof. Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso, is being widely celebrated as a transformative leader repositioning Nigeria’s raw materials sector as the engine of national industrialization.
Since assuming office, Prof. Ike-Muonso has returned the Council to its core mandate with clarity, innovation and results-driven leadership that is earning commendations from industry players, investors and women entrepreneurs across the country.
In a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda, the erudite Professor is championing the landmark *30% Value Addition Bill* before the National Assembly. The bill, which has already passed the House of Representatives, seeks to ensure that no raw material leaves Nigeria without at least 30% local processing – a move experts say will create millions of jobs, boost SMEs, and retain wealth within the economy. His commitment to this cause earned him the honour of Patron of the Micro Sector Development Initiative for Africa (MISEDI) on June 23.
Under his watch, RMRDC has recorded historic firsts. The Council successfully launched the *Nigeria Integrated Information Statistical System for Raw Materials and Products (NISSRAMP)* – the first comprehensive digital platform providing real-time data on raw materials availability, location, and investment opportunities, ending decades of data scarcity for investors.
He also convened the maiden *Africa Raw Materials Summit (ARMS) in 2025*, a continental platform that has placed Nigeria at the centre of Africa’s industrial conversation. Preparations are in top gear for the second edition slated for October 19-20, 2026.
Just this week, on September 9th, the DG demonstrated his inclusive development philosophy with two strategic moves: a call for massive investment in the Niger Delta Coffee Value Chain to create wealth for local farmers, and a partnership with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT to drive women empowerment and media advocacy for industrialization.
Stakeholders describe his leadership as transformational – blending academic depth, private sector experience, and patriotic zeal to move Nigeria from a raw commodity exporter to a producer of finished goods.
With over 600 research outcomes and 47 innovations ready for commercialization, Prof. Ike-Muonso is not just talking industrialization, he is delivering it.
