The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has once again underscored the importance of compassionate leadership in law enforcement, as he paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of late Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ejeh Alfred in Abuja.
The visit, which took place on April 30, 2026, reflects what many observers describe as “policing with a human face,” a leadership approach that prioritizes empathy, welfare, and direct engagement with officers and their families.
Late ASP Ejeh, who served as a driver with the Police Airwing, died in the line of duty during an operational mission on April 17, 2026. His death has drawn attention to the risks faced daily by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in the course of safeguarding the nation.
During the visit, IGP Disu consoled the widow, Mrs. Mercy Ejeh, her children, and other family members, describing the fallen officer as a dedicated professional who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to Nigeria. He emphasized that the Force would not abandon families of officers who die in active service.
“The welfare of our personnel, both serving and fallen heroes, remains a top priority. We will continue to stand by you and ensure that the legacy of your loved one is honoured,” the IGP assured.
Security analysts say such gestures go beyond routine official duties, reinforcing trust within the Force and boosting morale among officers on the frontline. They note that leadership that combines operational strength with human empathy is critical in modern policing.
The IGP also used the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of police personnel nationwide, stressing that their courage and dedication form the backbone of national security. He offered prayers for the repose of the late officer’s soul and strength for the family to bear the loss.
The condolence visit serves as a reminder that behind the uniform are families and communities, and that effective policing must balance enforcement with compassion.
