The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is grieving the loss of five gallant operatives who died in September 2025 after being struck by reckless drivers while on official duty.
In a decisive response, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has mandated the immediate and full prosecution of all motorists responsible for these tragic knockdown incidents. This stern directive aims to establish a clear deterrent against future acts of recklessness that endanger the lives of FRSC staff.
The fatal incidents occurred across five separate locations within the month: Ekiti Sector Command on September 6, 2025; Ogun Sector Command on September 8, 2025; Taraba Sector Command on September 15, 2025; Jos By-Pass Unit Command on September 19, 2025; and Obollo Afor Unit Command on September 24, 2025.
Corps Marshal Mohammed expressed profound concern, stressing that these losses represent more than just statistics; they are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners whose lives were tragically cut short while actively safeguarding Nigerian roads.
The Corps Marshal noted with great alarm the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives, who are now contending not only with speeding vehicles but also with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults in addition to knockdowns.
He firmly stated that the FRSC will no longer tolerate acts that endanger its staff and warned that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
In light of the escalating dangers, the Corps Marshal called on personnel nationwide to exercise the highest level of alertness and prioritize their own safety, emphasizing that they must be safe and alive to effectively save others.
The Corps is also intensifying engagements with relevant authorities to enhance the protection of its personnel and installations. This measure is intended purely as a safeguard to deter assaults, ensuring officers can perform their duties without fear of attack.
The Corps Marshal solemnly commiserated with the families of the deceased officers, saluting their courage and sacrifice, and urged all Nigerians to honor their memory by respecting traffic laws and showing regard for FRSC operatives on duty.
He reaffirmed that going forward, disregard for traffic laws and the safety of FRSC personnel will attract serious sanctions and legal consequences.
