The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has successfully prevented a potential major disaster following a lone fuel tanker crash at the NEPA Roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna, in the early hours of Sunday, 8 February 2026.
The incident, which occurred around 7:15 a.m., involved a fully loaded tanker that fell at a busy section of the metropolis, posing a serious risk of fire outbreak and secondary crashes. Upon receiving a distress call, the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command immediately activated its emergency response mechanism.
A rescue team from RS1.1 Kaduna, led by Deputy Route Commander (DRC) I. Gunda, was swiftly deployed to the scene. On arrival, FRSC personnel promptly secured the area by closing all access roads to the crash site to prevent further accidents and eliminate the risk of ignition.
To minimise disruption within the city, the Corps quickly implemented traffic diversion measures, ensuring steady vehicular movement and reducing congestion across adjoining routes.
The operation received strong inter-agency support, with personnel of the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force working in close collaboration with the FRSC to safeguard lives and property. Efforts are currently ongoing to safely evacuate the fuel content and remove the tanker from the roadway to restore normal traffic flow.
Notably, no casualties were recorded as of the time of this report, a development widely attributed to the prompt response and professional handling of the situation by emergency responders.
The FRSC has commended road users for their cooperation and calm disposition during the operation, while urging motorists to continue obeying traffic instructions and exercise patience until full recovery is completed.
