The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has reiterated its resolve to drive the nation’s transition toward sustainable energy, pointing to recent solar installations and commercialization initiatives as clear evidence of accelerating momentum across the country.
Speaking on the rollout of key projects executed in Kano this past April, the Director-General of the ECN, Engr. Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, highlighted the successful deployment of a 2-megawatt (MW) Solar Mini-Grid alongside 200 solar-powered streetlights at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil. The commission also spearheaded the official launch of the Energise Commercialisation Now (ECN) Programme in the state.
According to Dr. Abdullahi, these milestones reflect the commission’s active strategy to implement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarisation Agenda through homegrown technical solutions, innovative frameworks, and scalable clean energy models.
”These achievements reaffirm our commitment at the Energy Commission of Nigeria to advancing the Renewed Hope Solarisation Agenda through innovation, local technology, and sustainable energy solutions that improve lives and drive economic growth,” Abdullahi stated.
He emphasized that the Kano projects are part of a broader, synchronized nationwide effort aimed at expanding solar capacity across public institutions and rural communities. Similar solarisation initiatives are currently underway in several regions across Nigeria as part of the Federal Government’s target to decentralize power supply, enhance energy security, and foster local industrial capacity.
The Director-General expressed confidence in the country’s clean energy trajectory, noting that the commission remains focused on deploying transformative projects designed to stimulate economic growth and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.
