The Kogi State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, has been honoured with a prestigious National  by the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the built environment and public service.

The award was presented during the Institute’s 56th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Abuja.

In conferring the honour, the NIOB described the Commissioner as deserving of the recognition, citing his numerous achievements and contributions towards improving the built environment, as well as his outstanding service to nation-building across his various appointments.

The award also recognised his sustained contributions to leadership, integrity in public service and remarkable impact on housing and urban development in Kogi State under the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Abanika described the recognition as humbling, stressing that he received it not merely as a personal achievement but as a reflection of the collective efforts of the Kogi State Government, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and professionals and stakeholders contributing to the development of the state’s built environment.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership and membership of the NIOB, particularly the Chairman of the Kogi State Chapter, Bldr. Aisha Orumah-Sylvanus, MNIOB, and her team, for finding him worthy of the honour.

Speaking further, the Commissioner emphasised that housing goes beyond the provision of shelter, describing it as a matter of dignity, security, economic opportunity and sustainable development.

He said the conference theme was both relevant and timely, noting that government alone cannot achieve sustainable housing delivery without the expertise, professionalism and constructive advocacy of institutions such as the NIOB.

Hon. Abanika reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Kogi State Government and the Institute in promoting professionalism, quality construction, innovation and sustainable urban development.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the opportunity to serve and for his support for housing and infrastructure development in Kogi State.

The Commissioner described the award as an encouragement to do more, assuring the Institute that the Ministry would remain committed to improving its performance and delivering more results in the years ahead.

He dedicated the honour to the people of Kogi State and everyone working tirelessly to build a better and more sustainable future for their communities.

The Commissioner was joined at the event by members of staff of the Ministry, who turned out in large numbers to witness the honour and celebrate the milestone with him.

The NIOB applauded the Commissioner’s commitment to the built environment sector and extended its congratulations on the well-earned recognition.
