The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has flagged off the long-awaited construction of the 12.5-kilometre Unosi–Odonto–Ogigiri rural road in Ajaokuta Local Government Area, ending decades of neglect and unfulfilled promises.

Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Hon. Sani Egidi Abdulraheem, Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, described the project as “historic and dear” to his people. He noted that despite being in government budgets for over 30 years — from the era of old Kwara State to the present Kogi State — the road had remained untouched until Ododo’s administration took decisive action.

“This project will greatly enhance agricultural productivity and other economic activities in our area. With Your Excellency’s track record, we are confident that the road will be completed in record time,” Abdulraheem said.

The lawmaker also commended Governor Ododo for other landmark interventions in the constituency, including the siting of the state’s only Free Trade Zone in Ajaokuta, which he said has the potential to transform the economic fortunes of the state and the host community.

Abdulraheem further hailed the governor for supporting the establishment of five LNG projects in the local government, particularly through sustained security measures that have ensured peaceful and uninterrupted operations.

He also expressed gratitude for employment opportunities given to indigenes of Ajaokuta under the current administration, pledging the continued loyalty and support of the constituency.

“You have etched your name in the hearts of our people. Ajaokuta Federal Constituency will remain your fortress,” the federal lawmaker assured.

The flag-off ceremony drew community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents who celebrated what they described as a “long-overdue step towards development” in the area.
