The ongoing revitalization of Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in Kogi State is making significant progress, as revealed during the routine fortnightly meeting of the state health team and contractors handling various projects.
The meeting, held to assess the status of work across different sites, provided a platform for contractors to present their progress reports, including challenges and photographic evidence. This was in addition to the on-site assessments conducted by project supervisors to ensure accountability and adherence to quality standards.
During the session, Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adams Abdulazeez, alongside the Executive Director of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Muazu, the BHCPF Desk Officer, Dr. Bola, and the IMPACT Project Manager, Mr. Theophilus, reviewed the reports presented by contractors. Discussions focused on achievements, obstacles encountered, and solutions to ensure the timely delivery of quality healthcare facilities.
According to the latest updates, about 90% of the project sites are experiencing varying levels of construction activity, with contractors demonstrating strong commitment to meeting the stipulated timelines.
One of the challenges identified in some locations is inadequate land space to achieve the required Level-2 functional PHCs. However, affected communities have shown commendable ownership of the initiative by swiftly providing additional land to accommodate the projects.
Contractors also acknowledged the unwavering support received from local government chairmen, ward councilors, government officials, community leaders, religious rulers, as well as youth and women leaders, all of whom have played pivotal roles in ensuring the smooth execution of the projects.
These routine engagements with contractors are part of the government’s strategy to maintain quality standards, ensure value for money, and achieve timely completion of the revitalization projects.
The revitalization of PHCs remains a top priority for Kogi State, reflecting its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to quality medical services for residents.
