President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, for his emergence as the winner of the governorship election in Edo State last Saturday. Okpebholo was declared the winner by INEC on Sunday.
In a statement by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the efforts of the National and State Leaders of APC and all serving APC Governors that resulted in the victory. He observed that the victory represented the endorsement of the people of the APC, its progressive vision, economic reforms, and commitment to the enhancement of Nigerians.
The President urged Senator Okpebholo to be magnanimous in victory and consider this as an opportunity to serve the people of Edo State. He called on the governor-elect to reach out to his opponents in bringing the state together for its development.
President Tinubu took time to thank the other candidates for their immense contribution to the democratic process and cited the peaceful nature of the election as proof of the democratic maturity of Nigeria. He called on anyone dissatisfied with the election result to seek redress in court.
The President also commended the people of Edo State for their orderly conduct in the election and congratulated INEC and the security agencies for conducting what he described as free and fair elections despite some hiccups to mark 25 years of democratic governance in Nigeria.
