The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice has issued a strong rebuke of allegations made by activist Omoyele Sowore against CP Jimoh Moshood, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, urging him to cease his “unsubstantiated attacks”. In a press statement made available to journalists in Abuja, the coalition expressed its shock and disappointment over the nature of Sowore’s claims.
Comrade James Okoronkwo, National Coordinator of the coalition, affirmed that CP Jimoh Moshood has demonstrated unwavering professionalism in his role, earning a reputation for transparency and fairness in maintaining law and order in Lagos State. “His dedication to securing the state is commendable and deserves support, not unwarranted criticism,” Okoronkwo stated.
The CSOs emphasized that the allegations leveled against CP Moshood lack concrete evidence and appear aimed at undermining the Commissioner’s efforts to ensure peace and security in one of Nigeria’s most vibrant states. “We see this as an attempt to tarnish his image and distract him from his critical duties,” the statement read.
The coalition stressed that in a time when Lagos needs collaborative efforts to tackle security challenges, such baseless allegations are counterproductive. CP Moshood’s leadership has been marked by initiatives that promote community engagement and enhance public safety, they noted.
The group commended the Lagos State Police Command for its ongoing efforts to curb crime and maintain order, urging citizens to appreciate the challenges of policing a bustling metropolis like Lagos. “CP Moshood’s work speaks for itself,” they said.
While acknowledging the right to free speech, the CSOs condemned the use of unsubstantiated claims that could incite tension or erode trust in law enforcement. “Responsible criticism is welcome, but not reckless attacks,” Okoronkwo added.
The coalition called on all residents of Lagos to remain calm, law-abiding, and proactive in supporting security agencies. “Volunteer intelligence, report suspicious activities, and let’s ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year,” they urged.
The statement highlighted the importance of unity between citizens and security operatives in tackling common challenges, emphasizing that CP Moshood’s track record merits backing, not baseless opposition.
In closing, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups reiterated its full support for CP Jimoh Moshood and the Lagos Police Command, urging Omoyele Sowore to retract his allegations and focus on constructive engagement. “Let’s prioritize peace and progress,” they said.
