The Warri–Itakpe Train Services (WITS) is set to commence full commercial operations by next week, following the successful completion of all necessary arrangements by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
The development has been attributed to the hard work and commitment of the Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, whose leadership has revitalised activities along the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor. The lifting of the suspension on the Warri–Itakpe railway line is expected to significantly improve transportation, boost economic activities, and ease the movement of passengers and goods across the connected states.
In a move aimed at encouraging public participation and familiarisation with the service, members of the public will enjoy free train rides at the commencement of operations. Stakeholders have lauded the initiative, describing it as a people-oriented intervention that underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to modern rail transportation in Nigeria.
