Police Arrest Foreigners ‘Sponsoring’ Protesters Flying Russian Flag in Kano

The Kano State police command parades some suspected foreign nationals said to have sponsored the #EndBadGovernance protest in the state. This was disclosed by the police commissioner, Salman Dogo, after a meeting between the governor of the state, Abba Yusuf, and his team. Youths had hit the streets since August 1 waving Russian flags and asking President Vladimir Putin of Russia to interfere in Nigeria.

Dogo said the authorities are on hand to restore peace and order in Kano, where the Governor had adjusted the 24-hour curfew from 6 am to 6 pm. An earlier statement by the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, had read that flying foreign flags during the protests amounts to a treasonable offence. He said security agencies would continue to protect Nigeria’s democracy.
