The e Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, has elected new executives. The election, which was held today, Saturday, 24th, May 2025, had four positions filled.
The election, which was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere, had 31 accredited members, saw Comrade Felix Ojo elected as Chairman with 23 votes and three voided, and Comrade Hutson Efosa Akugbe was elected as the Vice Chairman, also with 23 votes and three void votes. Comrade Henrietta Momodu was voted in as Secretary with 23 votes and three invalid votes, while Comrade Gloria Tochukwu Umeweni was elected as Treasurer with 23 votes and two void votes.
The results were announced by the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Philip Nyam. Other committee members, including Comrade Sharon Emephia, Comrade Ben Ubiri, Comrade Alpha Jackden, and Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene, joined him in congratulating the winners.
The newly elected officers were immediately sworn in by the Secretary of Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, who represented the Chairman of Council, Comrade Grace Ike. While the newly elected officers were also presented with their Certificates of Return by the Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Philip Nyam.
In his speech after the swearing-in, the Secretary of Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, who read Comrade Grace Ike’s message, thanked members of the union for turning out to vote and praised the electoral committee for running a transparent and credible election.
He charged the newly elected Excos to uphold the tenet of the profession, urging them to be inclusive in their operations.
The newly elected chairman also officially dissolved the committee, having completed its task and thanked Members for turning out to participate, while promising to carry every member along.
