The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC as the winner of the Edo State Governorship Election held on Saturday. The Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology made the declaration.
The announcement was based on results from all the 18 LGAs in the state. Okpebholo, who won in 11 LGA, defeated his closest opponents-Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party. The candidate won with 291,667 votes, while his closest rivals, Ighodalo and Akpata garnered 247,274 and 18,737, respectively.
Okpebholo, who is now poised to take over from the outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has assured that he will complete the remaining works the immediate past Governor Adams Oshiomhole started.
