A wave of jubilation swept across Ajaokuta Local Government Area on Friday as Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo approved the long-anticipated construction of the Unosi–Ebiya Road, a major infrastructural boost long awaited by residents.

The announcement was confirmed during an on-the-spot assessment tour led by the Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, and his counterpart, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye. The visit signals the state government’s readiness to commence work on the critical road project.

Addressing stakeholders in Ajaokuta, Engr. Ahovi praised Governor Ododo’s leadership, describing him as a visionary committed to equitable development across the state. He noted that the presence of Hon. Abanika Taiye, a native of the local government and passionate advocate for the project underscores the administration’s seriousness about the road’s construction.

Hon. Abanika, in his remarks, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor for responding to the longstanding cries of the people. He hailed the project as a “significant milestone” and described Governor Ododo as a “talk-and-do” leader who prioritizes the welfare of citizens.

“This gesture has deepened the love and loyalty of the people of Ajaokuta to His Excellency,” Hon. Abanika stated. “Beyond easing transportation, this project will unlock vast economic opportunities across our communities.”

He also acknowledged the solid political groundwork laid by former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, noting that the current administration is building effectively on that foundation. Additionally, he applauded the Honourable Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem Egidi, for his tireless advocacy and strategic engagement with the state government in ensuring the road’s approval.

Commendations were also extended to Engr. Ahovi for his proactive leadership in driving infrastructure development across the state.

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included the Chairman of Ajaokuta LGA, Hon. Haruna Ogido Aliyu, and community leaders who praised the government’s decision. They pledged full support and cooperation for the project’s execution and assured the safety of all personnel and materials during construction.

The tour concluded at Ebiya, where the commissioners joined the Muslim faithful for Jumaat prayers. During the prayer session, the Chief Imam and the Idu of Ebiya led special prayers for Former Governor Yahaya Bello, Governor Ododo, Hon. Sanni Egidi, and other political leaders — invoking divine guidance, protection, and continued progress for Kogi State.

The approval of the Unosi–Ebiya Road project marks another step in Governor Ododo’s commitment to inclusive development and infrastructure transformation across Kogi State.
